Merced College is looking for a dynamic, versatile candidate for the Career Center Job Developer position within the Student Services Division! The Career Center Job Developer supports the Career Center by interfacing and collaboratively networking with the community, business and industry representatives, as well as Merced College faculty and staff to develop and maintain employer database, job banks and job bulletins, internships and volunteer opportunities, as well as researching market and industry trends to provide Merced College students with relevant career opportunities. General Description
Under general direction to assist with the formulation of programs, procedures and services provided to students; to provide the necessary monitoring and supervised opportunities for students; and to do related work as required. Establishes and maintains relationships with employers and community organizations to develop job opportunities and support continued employment for students. This position performs activities designed to assist students with finding employment. This includes working closely with local employers, business organizations, and community organizations in developing job opportunities and arranging the direct placement of students matching the job skills with applicant qualifications.

Examples of Duties


Essential Functions:
  • Organizes and supervises support services for students on and off campus
  • Initiates and maintains personal contacts with business and industry representatives to set up recruitment profiles and provide orientations
  • Provides case management and comprehensive career support
  • Collaborates with other college staff and employment entities in a supportive case management approach and college goal completion
  • Develops and maintains an employer database, job banks and job bulletins, internships and volunteer opportunities announcements
  • Conducts follow-up surveys with employers and students
  • Conducts and/or participates in on or off-campus career fairs, workshops, chamber of commerce and community presentations and special and other outreach events
  • Participates in networking opportunities and other outreach activities
  • Maintains currency with industry trends; updates labor market information by researching online resources, attending meetings, maintaining contacts with regional community colleges, and networking with professional/community organizations that are involved in job placement/training activities
  • Communicates with employers during students' employment and reports results to appropriate staff and/or faculty
  • Works with program coordinators to collect and track job placement data
  • Compiles data and prepares reports and correspondence regarding job development and placement efforts
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to coordinate and facilitate recruitment days, employer panels, and targeted job fairs
  • Attends advisory committees
  • Advises faculty and administration of employment trends and the needs and concerns of the local business community
  • Develops marketing and promotional materials to advertise job placement services and activities on and off campus
  • Interprets and implements Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and Title 5 regulations as they pertain to a student's right to privacy, accuracy and retention of academic records and course repetition requests
  • Trains, schedules, assigns tasks to and oversees student workers
  • Assists students in career exploration, matching career interest/majors with applicable college majors
  • Assists individual students and/or groups of students to provide career center services information, resources and orientations: including preparing students to meet with a career counselor
  • Assists the career counselor with all activities related to the preparation and execution of Career Fairs
  • Conducts all aspects of Job Placement
  • Other related duties as assigned

  • Motivate students and support personnel in career decisions
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, staff and industry partners
  • Interpret policies, procedures, techniques, and rules governing employment and job placement
  • Represent the District by giving presentations and participating in meetings with individuals and groups
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Work independently with minimum supervision
  • Monitor, track and compile statistical information
  • Give and follow written and oral instructions
  • Understanding laws and regulations governing state and federally funded programs including labor laws, budgets, and revenue control
  • Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.


Typical Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
    OR
  • Associate's degree AND three (3) years of applicable experience
    OR
  • The equivalent education and experience
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

License or Certificate:
  • A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance program may be required.

Desired:
  • Increasingly responsible (approximately 2-4 years of full-time equivalent experience) experience in job development, human resources, job placement, or closely related field experience in a college or university setting involving technical review of transcript coursework and the awarding of degrees
